PE & Sport Premium

What is the Sport Premium?
The Government is providing funding of £150 million per annum for academic years 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2015/16 to provide new, substantial primary school sport funding.

This funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary school headteachers to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The sport funding can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools.

Purpose of funding
Schools will have to spend the sport funding on improving their provision of PE and sport, but they will have the freedom to choose how they do this.
Possible uses for the funding include:

  • Funding professional development opportunities in PE

  • Increasing participation in competitive sports competitions

  • Providing cover to release teachers to work alongside leading PE teachers

  • Promoting “non-traditional” sports

  • Providing places for pupils on after school clubs

How have we spent or will we be spending the Sport Premium?

The children will have opportunities to take part in competitive sports competitions or events, organized internally and through the Norwich School Sports Partnership. Competitions and events in the past two years have included, cross country running, football, Dance Showcase, Kwick Cricket, tag rugby, Multi Skills Festival and swimming. Funds, where required, will also be used to release staff to take the children to events and competitions as well as meet any possible transport costs.

  • Cover will be provided so all the teachers get to deliver some PE sessions alongside Mr Clare or specialist coaches and teachers. This will enable them to develop their own PE teaching.

  • We have and will also be offering free places at after school sports clubs so that the children can experience some non-traditional sports such as fencing, volleyball and table tennis.Funding will also be used to develop the Golden Mile, skipping and circus skills lunchtime clubs.

  • Staff will be given opportunities to access CPD.
  • Will will be looking to spend part of the funding on equipment which will have an impact for a number of years, such as the posible purchasing of traverse wall panels this year for our school hall.
  • Membership of the Norwich School Sports Partnership - providing opportunities for children to enter a range of competive sporting events and also the Dance Showcase and Multi Skills festivals.

As time goes by we will be review the impact this funding is having on improving participation in sport, as well as our quality of provision. we will also outline priorites and costs for this academic year. See below for this.
